Though it’s not as commonly eaten in the United States as it is internationally, trifle, what Americans often call “tipsy cake,” is a colorful holiday dessert that is perfect to make as an Easter treat. A proper trifle is typically made with egg custard, layered over sponge cake that is soaked in fruit and sherry, and topped with whipped cream.
Of course, there are many variations of this dessert. Trifles can be made simply with fruit or mixed with almonds and chocolate or topped with cinnamon-flavored whipped cream.
